Jun 17, 2015
On Sunday June 14 opened the exhibition entitled Dressing up the car: textiles that move you and has enjoyed the complicity of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and the companies that have prepared and donated all the items on display. The head of research and content has been Professor Monica Ardanuy in collaboration with Ferran Pares, the students of the Department of Textile and Paper Engineering of the UPC and the team CDMT.
This exhibition seeks to explain the presence and importance of technology textile elements involved in a car, as well as ongoing research is done on the subject and the companies that work there. The automotive sector is one of the most dynamic in our country; Catalonia accounts for only 8,3% of industrial employment and represents a business volume of over 11.800 million euros. The various components contribute more than 75% of the total value of the vehicle, and in 2014 the automotive component manufacturers in Spain were billed more than 29.700 million euros. Within this framework, textile plays a role but often we are not aware of.
