Light Alloys and Surface Treatment

The Light Alloys and Surface Treatment Design Centre (CDAL) is a research group of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya devoted to applied research and technological innovation. It is located on the Vilanova i la Geltrú Campus. The CDAL has two main research lines: one that focuses on light alloys and the other on surface treatment and coating. In the first, one of the most important areas is developing and optimising semi-solid metal (SSM) forming processes; in the second, the CDAL is working on obtaining and optimising coatings that are resistant to wear and corrosion, for which it has its own pilot plant for obtaining high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) coatings.
