Introduction
The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (CEM) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) carries out research and teaching in the area of materials science and technology and its applications
The Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering was created in 1988 as a result of the University Reform Law and currently encompasses the areas of knowledge of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering and Textile Engineering.
It is made up of professors, researchers and PAS who carry out their teaching and research activities at the Barcelona East School of Engineering (EEBE), the Barcelona Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineering (ETSEIB), the Higher Technical School of Industrial Engineering , Aerospace and Audiovisual of Terrassa (ESEIAAT) and the Higher Polytechnic School of Engineering of Vilanova i la Geltrú (EPSEVG).
They develop their teaching activity; research and technological transfer and innovation, in two areas of knowledge: Materials Science and Engineering and Textile Engineering.
Researchers from the Department participate in specific research centers, unique units with their own external projection whose main function is to attend to the demand of external public or private entities in specific fields of research such as the CRCEM Center for Research in Multiscale Science and Engineering. Barcelona and the Technological Innovation Center.
The Department is responsible for the doctoral program in Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering and the Doctoral program in Textile and Paper Engineering (with distinction of excellence), it also participates in the interdepartmental doctoral program in Biomedical Engineering.
